Items of Hai Van Road Tunnel Expansion Project

Overview

Along with the socio-economic development of the country and the central area, the density of transportation on National Highway 1A, especially passing the Central area in general, passing Hai Van road tunnel in particular, is increasing rapidly. As a result, after 10 years of operation (from 2005), Hai Van road tunnel has become overloaded, especially during peak hours, causing traffic safety disruption and traffic jams,… Therefore, investing to expand Hai Van road tunnel to meet current and future traffic needs is extremely necessary.

Understanding this need, on the momentum of successful projects done, Deo Ca Corporation proposed to the Government and the Ministry of Transport to approve the execution of Expanding Hai Van 2 tunnel project. This project is the development, expansion of the escape tunnel which was built before. This tunnel was initially used for escape of the main tunnel, therefore construction solution to expand the tunnel while keeping traffic flow through the tunnel is quite complex.

The project to expand Hai Van escape tunnel to be the main tunnel has the starting point at Lang Co town, Phu Loc (TT-Hue) and ending point at Hoa Hiep Bac, Lien Chieu district (Da Nang) with the total length of more than 12,14 km, including the northern leading road (in Lang Co town) of 1,79 km long, southern leading road (in Hoa Hiep Bac) of 4,06 km long, tunnel road of more than 6,29 km long, 9,75m wide and no-tunnel road of 5m long. The total capital for this project is estimated at more than 7.296 billion, started in early 2016 and is expected to be complete and put into operation in early 2019.
