Non-stop Construction at the Cam Lam - Vinh Hao Project Site

14/11/2023

In mid-November 2023, the Cam Lam - Vinh Hao expressway project is in its final stages of completion. Particularly, on the section from Km92+260 to Km134+00, which is being executed by Deo Ca, the contractor is working tirelessly day and night to expedite the construction of the remaining components.

The Cam Lam - Vinh Hao expressway is one of the three first-phase North-South expressway projects implemented through a Public-Private Partnership (PPP) model. With a total length of 78.5km, it spans across three provinces: Khanh Hoa (nearly 5km), Ninh Thuan (63km), and Binh Thuan (nearly 12km). The investor responsible for this project is the joint venture between Deo Ca Group and Company 194.

On the section executed by Deo Ca, the progress of the construction has reached 84% completion.

At 6:00 AM, at the northern entrance of the Nui Vung mountain tunnel, the project management team and construction teams gather for a shift handover meeting to discuss and coordinate the day's construction activities. The Nui Vung mountain tunnel has a length of 2.2km and accommodates three lanes, with a tunnel width of 14m. Once completed, it will be the fourth longest tunnel in the country, following the Hai Van, Deo Ca, and Cu Mong tunnels. In the first phase, only the right tunnel branch is being utilized for construction.

The Nui Vung mountain tunnel has been excavated and connected by Deo Ca Group with both branches since August 2023.

Alongside the excavation and construction of the tunnel's foundation and concrete lining, the contractor is simultaneously installing tunnel equipment such as COD pipes and N2 piers (VMS) in the completed sections. The progress of these installation activities has currently reached over 55%.

At 2:00 AM, the team of engineers and workers is currently pouring concrete for the cable duct of the right tunnel branch. This process is an essential step in ensuring the proper installation and protection of the cable infrastructure within the tunnel.

Another construction team is currently installing formwork for the expanded section of the tunnel. During the tunnel excavation process, the team encountered weak geological conditions in the southern direction, which differed from the approved technical design documents, affecting the tunneling progress. However, leveraging their extensive experience in tunnel projects, the engineering and construction team of Deo Ca Group has successfully overcome these challenges through various technical measures.

At this moment, the Ninh Thuan area is experiencing unpredictable weather conditions with intermittent rain and sunshine. This weather variation can indeed have an impact on the asphalt paving and pavement supply process for the remaining access roads and main routes.

Ensuring occupational safety and environmental hygiene has become a paramount concern. The project management team is fully committed to enforcing stringent safety measures within the construction units, particularly in terms of electrical safety and areas prone to landslides.

The production of road safety components, such as median barriers, flexible guardrails, anti-glare screens, barbed wire fences, and B40 fences, is being carried out with assurance. The installation progress of these components has reached approximately 50%.

Regarding the bridges, on the section executed by Deo Ca, there are a total of 21 bridges with a combined length of nearly 4km. The contractors are currently deploying 27 bridge construction teams. As of now, the bridge structures have completed the beam installation and deck construction, and the focus is on the finishing works.

At Tra Van 2 Bridge, a construction team is currently working on installing flexible piers.

The construction items along the main route are closely following the schedule to achieve the technical completion for vehicle traffic by the end of December 2023, and to complete the bridge and road construction before March 30, 2024. The contractors are also expediting the construction progress to fulfill their commitment of completing the Nui Vung Mountain tunnel project.
