On May 29, 2021, Mr. Nguyen Chi Dung, Minister of Planning and Investment inspect the site of Dong Dang - Tra Linh expressway project in Cao Bang province.
Accompanying the survey delegation were Mr. Lai Xuan Mon - Secretary of Cao Bang Province, Head of the Project Steering Committee, Mr. Ho Minh Hoang - Chairman of Deo Ca Group, Deputy Head of the Project Steering Committee together with all leaders of other departments of Cao Bang province.
The delegation directly inspected the route direction, listened to the project's construction plan. After listening to the report and field surveying, Minister Nguyen Chi Dung directed: "Because this expressway crosses many mountains and rivers, it is necessary to make the most optimal and most effective plan to match geographical location and to minimize investment costs”.

Previously, on December 24, 2020, Cao Bang Provincial People's Committee held a contest to select architectural design for some items of this expressway project.
The ideology of Cao Bang’s leader is to build a special and different expressway, not only serving traffic but also a symbol of culture, serving national security and foreign affairs. Cao Bang has 6 pairs of border gates.
According to the design options, the viaducts crossing the valley have the image of a crossbow and gourd lute, the national identity of the Cao Bang mountains. At the gateway intersections to the city, there are many statues of King Quang Trung, Hung Dao Vuong, Tran Quoc Tuan and imagine of lotus and gourd lute.
The province has determined to develop from tourism because of its unawakened great potential. The competition for the architectural plan of Dong Dang - Tra Linh expressway aims to create a highlight of a model project, which is also a unique route of Vietnam.
According to the investment policy approved by the Government from August 10, 2020, Dong Dang - Tra Linh expressway is 115 km long, with a total investment of more than 20,000 billion VND.
The section goes through Van Lang and Trang Dinh district of Lang Son is 52km. The section in Cao Bang province is about 63 km long, passing through Thach An district, Quang Hoa district, Trung Khanh district (former Tra Linh district), Hoa An district and Cao Bang city.
The starting point is at the intersection of Tan Thanh border gate, Coc Nam border gate, connecting to Huu Nghi - Chi Lang in Lang Son province. The end point is at the intersection of the road entering Tra Linh border gate economic zone and the national highway 34, belonging to Tra Linh border gate economic zone, Cao Bang province.
