On December 24, 2021, HHV, known as the Hai Van Tunnel Management Enterprise and the Da Nang City Fire and Rescue Police Department, held a fire fighting and rescue drill at level 3A at Hai Van tunnel.
According to the scenario, at 14:30, on December 24, 2021, a 2.5 ton truck with license plate 43C-08568 carrying cardboard was circulating in tunnel 2 (East tunnel), in the South - North direction, driven by driver Nguyen Van B. On the cabin, there were a driver and an assistant while traveling at a speed of 55 km/h, at Km 5+200, the electrical system suddenly shorted, causing a fire under the cabin. The fire quickly covered the entire cabin and was in danger of spreading to the trunk. The car caught fire, causing the driver to burn his hands and get stuck, requiring timely rescue and fire fighting.

After detecting, the Operations Center issued an order to close the two tunnel doors, regulating the vehicle to go another way, then implement the handling steps according to plan 3A, regulating traffic to ensure the distance and space for special vehicles to approach. Firefighting and rescue forces deployed firefighting shots, gave priority to rescue the victims and take them to the emergency room, at the same time, carry out fire fighting and bring damaged vehicles to a safe gathering place.
At the end of the drill, the leader issued an order to open the tunnel door so that traffic through the tunnel would return to normal, and at the same time held a meeting to learn from, re-evaluate and conclude the drill.
The firefighting and rescue drill helped improve the professional level of fire fighting and rescue at the Hai Van tunnel, minimizing the loss of life and property when a fire or explosion incident occurred as well as inspecting the ITS, electricity, ventilation and fire protection and rescue facilities after the Hai Van 2 tunnel expansion project is completed. This was also an opportunity for the Hai Van Tunnel Operations Center to review the on-site firefighting work in the condition that vehicle traffic in the tunnel will increase during the upcoming Lunar New Year.
