On the morning of December 12, 2019, Deo Ca Transport Infrastructure Investment Joint Stock Company coordinated with the authorities of Da Nang city and Thua Thien Hue province to organize fire prevention anh rescue drills in Hai Van tunnel.

The assumption is a truck with a capacity of 9 tons, moving into the Hai Van tunnel. Upon reaching the middle section of the tunnel, a tire exploded, the car hit the railing and overturned. At the same time, a passenger car has been running in the same direction behind it carried 18 passengers could not keep the distance, hit the truck causing fire. The fire generated a lot of smoke and high heat, the fire quickly spread to other cars causing traffic congestion.

The incident detected through camera system, Hai Van Tunnel Operating Center mobilizes the on – site fire fighting force to put out the fire, take injured people to emergency. Later, Da Nang City and Thua Thien - Hue Province strengthened fire fighting facilities and forces to coordinate fire extinguishment

Mr. Nguyen Xuan Huong, General Director of Deo Ca Transport Infrastructure Investment Joint Stock Company, said: "The rehearsal is aimed at ensuring the incidents handling process in the tunnel. The works improved the coodination between the management unit and the local fire prevention and fighting agency in handling of incidents ".

Currently, the average traffic volume through the tunnel is 11,000 to 12,000 vehicles / day, especially soaring on weekends and holidays, sometimes up to nearly 19,000 vehicles / day. The project to expand Hai Van 2 tunnel is in the stage of completion, construction and installation of equipment systems, and it is expected to put into operation by the end of 2020.
