Forget about the successes to reach new heights
On August 17th, 2018 in Hanoi, Deoca Group held a meeting to collect opinions on the plan “Group Restructuring for the period of 2018 - 2020, vision to 2025”.
At the meeting, there were Leaders of the Group, members of the Senior Consulting Board, Management Board of the member companies of the Group, leaders of Vietnam Journalists Association and especially the presence of the monk Thich Tue Tinh and the priest Joseph Nguyen Manh Khoa from Da Lat and Lam Dong.
After listening to the presentation of the plan by the Restructuring Board, Dr. Ho Nghia Dung, former Minister of Transport, Chairman of the Senior Consulting Board said: “This was a restructuring plan with meticulous investment, and agreed with the major issues mentioned in the plan”. According to Dr. Ho Nghia Dung, the general knowledge about restructuring and analytical data should be included in the appendix as a reference, the plan should be more compact, focusing on the main objectives, focusing on the core objectives – a place creating useful products to the society.

Continuing with the topic of restructuring, Priest Joseph Nguyen Manh Khoa said, although he was a “layman” in the field of economics, not an expert in transport infrastructure investment... but the brand of Deoca Group impressed not only him but also impressed the whole country in recent years by the works bearing Deoca mark along the roads in the Central. Priest Nguyen Manh Khoa said: “Even some foreign companies and tourists passing Deoca admired that this was a product of Vietnamese people”.

Major General Nguyen Huy Ma, who has worked closely with Deoca during the development of the Group. Major General Nguyen Huy Ma has just recovered from a serious illness but he was also present to share his enthusiasm and pondering for the Group development. For Major General Nguyen Huy Ma, as the Group’s Senior Consultant, he seemed to be never absent from any important meeting. For major issues of the Group, he participated or sent messages on the hospital bed, even once he had to go to the emergency room, but when he regained consciousness, he sent messages to the head of Deoca Group asking: “Mr. Hoang! What about this work, in my opinion ...?”.

Major General Nguyen Huy Ma said: “The restructuring plan must originate and inherit from the meaning of the left foot logo, with “think differently, make differently”. Such left foot made Deoca. When gaining success, Deoca must restructure. The question here was how to do it? Deoca had gained success; such success foundation was considered as zero to continue with other “battles”.
Journalist Ho Quang Loi, Standing Deputy Chairman of Vietnam Journalists Association at the meeting judged that the restructuring plan of Deoca was really a big story. What Deoca had done during the last 10 years was a big story. At the time that people could look to enjoy the glory, Deoca looked forward to start a new journey. What Deoca did yesterday, people passed through Deoca tunnel, Co Ma tunnel, and next was Cu Mong pass tunnel and on Bac Giang – Lang Son highway, Chi Lang – Huu Nghi highway, then they would understand who Deoca was and what they contributed to this country. Mr. Ho Quang Loi raised the question, why did Deoca discuss on the restructuring story when they had made such stories? All started with a philosophy so what was that philosophy “If we stopped, we would remove ourselves”.
If there is mind, there is perspicacity, once there is perspicacity, there is vision
Right at the meeting of “Restructuring Deoca Group” was the Gala Dinner program “Meditation for business development”. Deoca Group has been operating for over 30 years (1985 - 2018), from Hai Thach cooperative in Phu Yen province, now it has become a strong national group.
Especially, Gala with the topic “Meditation for business development” was expanded with many different perspectives, that was the relationship between companies and religion.
Dr. Ho Nghia Dung opened the Gala Dinner: “In every human being’s activity, every activity more or less had cultural factor. We hereby referred to the corporate culture, the culture of Deoca was shown by the word MEDITATION. Being a company, we always lived in a fiercely competitive environment, but behind it, for us to feel peaceful to look back what we had done, the meditation was to bring the balance of life and direct us to the value of “Truth, Goodness, Beauty”.

Mr. Ho Minh Hoang, Chairman of Deoca Group, said: “When talking about meditation, what we do with meditation? With priest, he talked about disturbance, with monk, he talked about purification. To me, I talked about going straight”. I had successfully completed the first phase of Deoca. But if I stopped here, there was nothing to talk about. I solved the problem of Cu Mong Pass with a vow of Phu Yen: “Phu Yen stood between two passes. The poverty occurred all year round”. To keep going to Hai Van, we had to rebuild the organization. We never slept on the victory. So I set out a philosophy to start building the organization: MEDITATION – ORIENTATION – QUANTIFICATION. We had a state of mind to go in the same direction with the Group’s path”.
From a Buddhism perspective, monk Thich Tue Tinh said: “In the past, the mind was the core of human life. The mind, in the spirit of Buddhism, was also the core of Buddhism. I highly appreciated the spirit of meditation, orientation, and quantification proposed by Deoca. If there was mind, there was perspicacity, once there was perspicacity, there was vision”.

According to monk Tue, when Buddhism referred to the mind, it was mentality. Everything came from the ground. We sowed and planted from such ground, if we sowed good plants, we shall achieve good results. The value of Deoca was affirmed by the works.
From the perspective of meditation in business development, Priest Nguyen Manh Khoa said: “All people in Deoca sowed the service by the patience. If you are a member of Deoca, you knew nothing about meditation, orientation, vision, you cannot engage. In the social relationship, we owed each other the humanity. The works of Deoca, what was left was the respect and treasure. Furthermore, I realized that there was the engagement and solid mind of this organization”.
Chairman of Deoca, Mr. Ho Minh Hoang Group also acknowledged that, during the past time, the press and media always accompanied and had important opinions in the propaganda for Deoca’s projects. And at this Gala Dinner, Journalist, PhD. Tran Ba Dung, Head of Operations Department of Vietnam Journalists Association showed the impression to the meditation philosophy of the Group. He added: “In the field of journalism, we also set out the bright mind, pure heart, sharp pen. The mind must be put as the top priority. Only that there were good journalists, good articles which were useful to the society”.
