To all the staff of Hai Van Road tunnel Management and Operation Company!
I came to know of the accident happened at 08:36 on March 22nd, 2019 concerning a 16-seat vehicle on its way through the North-South tunnel, when it was only 1,133 meter away from the North opening and suddenly caught on fire. At the time, the vehicle was carrying a coffin and having team of 4 other vehicles escorting it.
Upon discovering the accident, you all have immediately closed the tunnel opening, sending orders to the fire prevention, rescue department to remedy the situation, at the same time directing lanes at the scene of the fire so that other vehicles can safely get outside. The casket was transported to a small truck; the bereaved also ushered to the back of the truck to continue the mourning journey according to schedule. You all have arrived at the scene of accident within only 2 minutes, and resolved the situation for only 5 minutes. There’s no doubt that you all have acted in a very flexible, responsible, humane manner.
In the past, Hai Van Road tunnel Management and Operation Company managed to response to a chain of incidents such as: vehicle crash in the South highway of Hai Van tunnel, in which most of the victims being foreigners; passenger vehicle carrying students fell into deep ravine along the mountain pass was rescued as an effort of cooperation with local departments. All of which were highly appreciated by the Minister of Transport at a press conference with competent authorities at Da Nang General Hospital...
It’s common knowledge that in addition to the functions of management and operation, Hai Van Road tunnel Management and Operation Company also timely provided the means, equipment, manpower to coordinate with other construction Executive committees during the expansion progress of Hai Van tunnel no. 2, coming up with creative ideas to reduce repair and replacement cost of equipment such as repair of remote controlled SBU of tunnel boring machine, cooperating with the construction Executive committee for blasting.
