Along the central region, the tunnel projects such as Co Ma, Deo Ca, Cu Mong and Hai Van not only have a great importance to transport connectivity and the socio-economic development in the Central - Highlands region but also have an important role in ensuring people’s life and the safety of vehicles passing through the tunnels. When traveling through the road tunnel, if the vehicles unfortunately have accident, the rescue operation and fire fighting are always timely implemented by the tunnel management units.

For example, at 04:59 on May 13, 2020, a passenger car with control plate 17B-015.83 moved on north-south direction through Hai Van tunnel suddenly stopped at Km7 + 560, 500m from the south entrance and caught fire. Detecting the abnormal signs of the passenger car, the Operating Center quickly sent the rescue and fire prevention force to approach the scene as soon as the car stopped. Immediately, the firefighters used fire extinguishers to put out the fire, simultaneously sprayed cooling water and took passengers and vehicles out of the dangerous area, no damage to humans, the vehicle has slight damage.

Timely detect incidents when vehicles pass through tunnels, ready to respond, minimizing loss of life and property

Timely rescue broken vehicles

According to statistics, there were many passenger cars moving on the mountain pass unfortunately caught fire, the professional firefighters were unable to quickly reach the scene due to the rough terrain of the pass road, resulting in heavy losses of people and property.

For example, on February 15, 2018, a 39-seat passenger car driven by Le Thanh Quoc (34 years old) carrying 29 foreign passengers. When moving on on the top of Hai Van Pass, the car suddenly caught fire, the driver tried to use a mini fire extinguisher to put out the fire but failed, helplessly watched the car burning. When the professional firefighters approached the scene, entire of the vehicles and properties of the passengers were burnt down.

The terrain is difficult to access so there will be great damage to people and property if any incidents occur

Therefore, it is obvious that when choosing to move through Hai Van tunnel instead of the pass road, aside from being safe, minimizing risks, reducing time and saving fuel, if unfortunately occur incidents, traffic collisions, especially fire and explosion incidents, the vehicles will always be timely rescued by firefighters and rescue forces, minimizing human and property losses.
