On September 18, 2025, a working delegation of the Ministry of Construction led by Deputy Minister Nguyen Danh Huy inspected the implementation of the railway renovation project through Khe Net Pass, and encouraged the construction units to complete the project in 2025.
Joining the working delegation were Mr. Nguyen Khanh Tung - Deputy Director of Railway Project Management Board, Mr. Nguyen Van Thai - Project Director, and representatives of contractors, consultants and supervisors.
The project to renovate the railway line through Khe Net Pass (under the Hanoi - Ho Chi Minh City railway line) is being invested in by the Railway Project Management Board. This is the first railway project in Vietnam to utilize ODA loans from the Korean Economic Development Cooperation Fund (EDCF) and domestic counterpart funds, with a total investment exceeding VND 2,000 billion. The project consists of two main packages, of which package XL01 is the construction of two railway tunnels, with a total length of 935m, carried out by the Deo Ca - Ilsung joint venture.

Reporting on the implementation of the XL01 package, Mr. Nguyen Duy Song - Director of the Package Management Board, said that the contractor consortium has mobilized more than 250 engineers, workers, machine operators and 30 machines and equipment. The construction site is organized into 4 fronts, focusing on completing tunnel No. 2, installing steel reinforcement, waterproofing membranes and concreting lining for tunnel No. 1, and reinforcing the portal roof. The output of the package reached 406/462 billion VND, equivalent to 87% of the contract value, meeting the set schedule. According to the plan, tunnel No. 2 will be completed in October 2025, tunnel No. 1 will complete lining and the other items before November 30, 2025, ensuring the handover of the entire package to the investor in December 2025.
During the implementation process, the construction work encountered many geological difficulties. In the North portal roof area of tunnel 1, prolonged heavy rain caused landslides and many cracks. The geological structure is complex and saturated with water, resulting in poor soil-rock cohesion, which can easily lead to tunnel face landslides. Although Tunnel 2 has more favorable geological conditions, it is also affected by prolonged heavy rain, affecting material transportation and construction organization.
The contractor has applied many technical solutions such as separating construction sections, spraying 10cm thick concrete lining, while strengthening drainage measures and maintaining the digging pace at tunnel No. 2. Thanks to that, the basic problems have been resolved, the project progress is guaranteed. "We have added more personnel, machinery and equipment and increased the construction teams to ensure the proposed progress", Mr. Nguyen Duy Song added.
The contractor has applied many technical solutions to ensure progress.
Deputy Minister Nguyen Danh Huy highly valued the contractors’ efforts. Despite many challenges, they have remained proactive and quick in devising effective measures, mobilizing workers, and ensuring the required progress. He also urged the Joint Contractor Consortium to continue fostering a proactive spirit, strengthen coordination among units, ensure construction safety, and contribute to completing the project on schedule.
Deputy Minister Nguyen Danh Huy gave gifts to encourage employees at the project.
Also here, the delegation of the Ministry of Construction visited and encouraged contractors, consulting and supervisory units, officers, engineers and workers at the construction site to continue promoting the spirit of hard work and unity to bring the project to the finish line in 2025.
