As the Lunar New Year 2025 approaches, taking advantage of the dry weather, contractors have been mobilizing manpower, machinery, and equipment to accelerate the construction progress of Quang Ngai - Hoai Nhon expressway.

After more than two years of construction, Quang Ngai - Hoai Nhon expressway has begun to take shape, and two out of three mountain tunnels have been mostly completed. The total project output has reached approximately 285.3 million USD, equivalent to 55% of the volume specified in the contract.

In the days leading up to the Lunar New Year 2025, construction on Quang Ngai - Hoai Nhon expressway remains in full swing. Thousands of engineers and workers, along with machinery and equipment, are working tirelessly to make up for delays caused by unfavourable weather conditions.

Over the past two months, prolonged rainfall in Quang Ngai province has hindered road construction progress. Taking advantage of the dry weather, DEOCA Group has mobilized manpower, machinery, and equipment to expedite construction progress, compensating for delays. Despite the approaching Lunar New Year, the construction site remains bustling with activity.

Mr. Ngo Truong Nam, General Manager of DEOCA Group, stated that this year's prolonged rainy season has significantly impacted construction operations. In response, the Executive Board has coordinated construction efforts to focus mainly on tunnels, bridges, culverts and precast components. From now until the Lunar New Year, all construction activities, including roadwork, will be accelerated to take full advantage of the favorable weather conditions.

In terms of roadwork, the embankment for the main route has been largely completed, with asphalt paving currently in progress on certain sections.

Along the route, 77 bridges are under construction, with pier and abutment works completed. Of these, girders have been installed on 50 bridges, with deck construction currently in progress.

Quang Ngai - Hoai Nhon expressway features three mountain tunnels. As of now, the construction of both tubes for tunnels No. 1 and No. 2 has been largely completed, with electromechanical systems and fire prevention installations currently underway.

Inside tunnel No. 2, the construction of the tunnel lining concrete, cement concrete pavement, and maintenance walkways on both sides has been completed, while the installation of electromechanical equipment and the ITS system is currently in progress.

For the tunnel sections, DEOCA Group has implemented continuous 24/7 construction operations, with engineers and workers rotating shifts to ensure uninterrupted progress.

Tunnel No. 3, spanning 3.2 km, is the largest newly constructed tunnel on North - South expressway. To date, nearly 5 km out of the total 6.2 km of both tunnel tubes have been excavated and reinforced. Meanwhile, the construction of tunnel lining concrete is being carried out sequentially, with approximately 1.5 km completed.

Tunnel No. 3 serves as the critical path for both Quang Ngai - Hoai Nhon expressway and the entire North - South expressway projects. Hundreds of engineers and workers are working tirelessly around the clock to ensure tunnel breakthrough by April 30, 2025, four months ahead of schedule.

DEOCA Group and the contractor consortium are expediting the construction process with the “3 shifts, 4 crews” schedule to complete Quang Ngai - Hoai Nhon expressway by the end of 2025, seven months ahead of the contractual deadline, connecting the entire Eastern North - South expressway.
