This afternoon (September 29), Bac Giang - Lang Son expressway, Bac Giang - Chi Lang section (30km from Lang Son city) was officially opened with the presence of Deputy Prime Minister Trinh Dinh Dung.
It is expected that 64km of this expressway will be officially put into operation in early 2020, the travel time from Hanoi to Lang Son will be shortened from 3.5 hours to about 2 hours.
Speaking at the ceremony, Deputy Prime Minister Trinh Dinh Dung said: “The project has a large scale and an important role, connecting Bac Giang and Lang Son provinces. In the near future, the section of Chi Lang - Huu Nghi border gate will be completed. This route plays a very important role in socio-economic development, ensuring national defense and security, shortening travel time, reducing congestion on National Road 1 and promoting trade between Bac Giang and Lang Son in particular and the whole country in general”.
According to Deputy Prime Minister, in the process of implementation, Bac Giang - Lang Son expressway project faced many difficulties in capital, forced to change investors. “In 2017, the former investor of the project was replaced by a professional, competent and experienced investor. Along with that, the active participation of local authorities in site clearance, the support of ministries, departments and banks, the obstacles have been gradually removed”, Deputy Prime Minister said. He also evaluated that no project has implemented the clearance as fast as Bac Giang - Lang Son expressway, less than 9 months after restarting, site clearance has basically been completed.
Up to now, after less than 2 years of construction, Bac Giang - Lang Son expressway project section Bac Giang - Chi Lang has basically been completed, ensuring the conditions to open, 3 months ahead of schedule.
Referring to the next task, Deputy Prime Minister Trinh Dinh Dung requires investors to urgently complete the remaining works of the project such as: Frontage road, signpost, painted line, ... in accordance with regulation, ensuring progress, quality and aesthetic to put the work into operation and use. At the same time, Deputy Prime Minister instructed the local governments of Bac Giang and Lang Son provinces to review and update the master plan, restructure the economy, rearrange the population and industrial parks, ... to effectively operate Bac Giang - Lang Son expressway, especially at intersections.
“Ministry of Transport shall coordinate with ministries, departments and local authorities in finding solutions to accelerate the process of deploying investment in Chi Lang - Huu Nghi expressway and deploying investment in Dong Dang (Lang Son) - Tra Linh (Cao Bang) expressway project in the period of 2021 – 2025”, Deputy Prime Minister directed.

The surface of the road is covered with two layers of asphalt concrete, making it very smooth
Bac Giang - Lang Son expressway is 64km long, completely newly built, starting at Km45 + 100 (intersecting with National Road 1 in Mai Sao commune, Chi Lang district, Lang Son province) and ending at Km108 + 500, connecting with the end of National Roand 1 in Hanoi - Bac Giang. The road has a width of 25m, including 4 lanes and 2 emergency stopping lanes, the design speed is 100 km/h.
Up to now, the road has basically completed the entire road surface. Contractors are speeding up the progress of traffic safety items, painted lines, guardrails, etc, to ensure the conditions for putting into operation.
The entire route has 6 intersections
Bac Giang - Lang Son BOT Project has a total length of nearly 170 km (e-commerce of over VND 12,000 billion), including two components: Constructing 64 km of expressways section of Km45 + 100 - Km108 + 500 and strengthening the surface of National Road 1, section Km1 + 800 - Km106 + 500 (with a length of 105km). Particularly, the upgrade of National Road 1 has been completed and put into operation in December 2017.
After being put into operation (expected from January 3, 2020), Bac Giang - Lang Son expressway will shorten the travel time from Hanoi to Lang Son from 3.5 hours to about 2 hours compared to National Road 1.
