In 2016, Ministry of Transport approved the project to expand evacuation tunnel of Hai Van tunnel into Hai Van 2 tunnel with a total length of 12.6km between Thua Thien Hue and Da Nang provinces.
The project is invested by Deo Ca Investment Joint Stock Company with 2 stages and total investment of over VND 7,000 billion. In which, the northern leading road located in Lang Co town, Phu Loc district, Thua Thien Hue province has a length of 2.1km; the southern leading road located in Hoa Hiep Bac ward, Lien Chieu district, Da Nang city is 4.3 km long; The tunnel has over 6.2km long.

According to Hai Van Tunnel PMU, in addition to the above items, the project also builds rescue center, fire protection & fighting, technical inspection station, etc. The project is expected to be completed and put into operation by the end of 2020.

Hai Van 2 tunnel project is considered as one of the national key projects. Reported by reporters of People’s Police Newspaper Online at the construction site, the contractors are now urgently carrying out the remaining items such as concreting tunnel wall, foundations and the road surface of Hai Van 2 tunnel. In which, concreting tunnel wall have reached over 50%.
It is expected that in March 2020, the item of concreting tunnel wall will be completed. The bridge and leading road of Hai Van 2 tunnel are also being carried out with the volume of more than 60%. In addition, the installation of technical equipment is also being prepared by contractors to complete the project in the shortest time.

Mr. Nguyen Tan Dong, Vice Chairman of Deo Ca Investment Joint Stock Company, Director of Hai Van Tunnel PMU said that with an experienced staff and engineers team and modern specialized technical equipment system, right from the beginning of Hai Van 2 tunnel expansion project, the PMU and authorities have made a plan to implement the project effectively, proactively arrange the source of spare equipment and supplies to promptly handle arising technical issues, tightly control the progress and quality of the project.
Materials are gathered by the contractors to build the bridge.

“The traffic volume passing through Hai Van 1 tunnel is increasing rapidly in recent years. On average, there are about 10,000 to 15,000 vehicles through the tunnel every day, causing congestion frequently. Therefore, the contractors have made efforts to accelerate constructing and months ahead of schedule. The final drills clear the tunnel, marking an important milestone to basically complete the construction and installation work in the first quarter of 2020 before deploying the equipment items, completing Hai Van 2 tunnel project and put into use”, Mr. Dong said.
