In 2016, the Ministry of Transport approved the project to expand Hai Van 2 tunnel, turning the evacuation tunnel into a main tunnel parallel to the current Hai Van 1 tunnel. The project has a total length of over 12.6km, including the northern leading road (in Lang Co town, TT-Hue) with 2.1km long, the southern leading road (in Da Nang) has 4.3km long; In particular, the tunnel through Hai Van mountain is more than 6.2 km; with a total investment of VND 8,516 billion. The project is invested by Deo Ca Investment Joint Stock Company.
After 32 months of construction, Hai Van 2 tunnel project is expected to technically open by the end of October 2019, after which it will be completed and put into operation by the end of 2020. The tunnel through mountain in the Hai Van 2 tunnel project also entered the final stage to technical open by the end of October. The reinforcement of the tunnel, concreting the tunnel wall, concreting the foundation, making the road surface, building the drainage system ... are urgently completed.
Beside tunnel digging item, the concrete spraying of the tunnel vault is over 60% of the volume, the bridges and leading roads to Hai Van 2 tunnel is carried out with a volume of over 70%. The installation of technical equipment was promptly implemented by contractors to complete in the shortest time. The constructions for rescuing, fire protection, construction of technical inspection station ... are also being promptly implemented.

The goals of completing the project and putting it into operation on schedule has always been a priority, this national key project is expected to be on time in order to reduce the vehicles traveling through Van tunnel 1.
