At the beginning of the Government meeting with local authorities on the morning of December 31, Prime Minister asked localities to go straight to the problems and pressing issues to propose to the Government.
Many local representatives in the Mekong Delta make petitions related to solving difficulties in building infrastructure and combating climate change.
PM Nguyen Xuan Phuc affirmed that he would require the Ministry of Transport to clarify the above recommendations and the next five-year program to focus on building infrastructure for Mekong Delta region to ensure the synchronism.
For Trung Luong - My Thuan project, Prime Minister emphasized that he will bring it to his destination because the Government has solved the credit problem, so this project must be done next year and Government assigns responsibility for Ministry of Transport and Can Tho to implement together.
Mr. Tran Quoc Trung, Secretary of Can Tho City Party Committee, asked the Prime Minister to direct, evaluate and select effective linkage model: regional linkages, cluster linkages or key product linkages to shape the development orientation for Mekong Delta region.
At the same time, it is necessary to soon approve the policy of 10 regional development priority projects because the current necessity of the region is transportation and infrastructure, in which projects such as Trung Luong - My Thuan - Can Tho, Can Tho - Ca Mau, Can Tho - Chau Doc, Ho Chi Minh City - Can Tho Expressways and implement phase 2 constructing the channel for large vessels to enter Hau River.
Besides, Mr. Trung also suggested that should be soon completed procedures and put the projects such as upgrading and expanding National Road 91, South Hau River National Road, promoting expansion of domestic flights of Can Tho international airport ... into the medium-term investment plan of 2021-2025.
Especially, regarding the situation of climate change, Mr. Trung also proposed that Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development should have a scientifically based research plan of climate change situation in the Mekong Delta, landslides in river and sea banks – embankments and soon have solutions to for deployment.
Mr. Le Van Huong - Chairman of Tien Giang People's Committee also informed that the current mechanisms and policies approved by the Government has solved the problem in Trung Luong - My Thuan Expressway, so there are no complaints and denunciations, possible to starte deploying disbursements to build.
Meanwhile, Mr. Tran Van Chuyen - Chairman of Soc Trang Provincial People's Committee proposed the Government to have solutions to combat climate change. Because the current deeply salinity intrusion has affected agriculture and fruit trees areas in Soc Trang and Hau Giang as well, it is necessary to remove the bottlenecks soon.
In addition, river and sea bank erosion is also taking place, at Soc Trang, the sea level rise but not being reinforced so it is necessary to urgent arrange capital to support for erosion treatment.
