Excitement, enthusiasm, and jubilant celebrations of victory combined with a vibrant construction spirit marked the “2024 Driving, machinery operation and construction skills competition”.

On November 17, nearly 100 skilled workers and machinery operators, representing the best in their field from construction units of Huu Nghi - Chi Lang and Dong Dang - Tra Linh expressway projects, participated in the competition. The participants were divided into six teams: DEOCA Group and ICV Company; Lizen Joint Venture; 559 Joint Venture; 568 Joint Venture; Hoang Long Thanh Hoa Joint Venture; and Dong Thuan Ha Joint Venture.

Overview of the competition's opening ceremony.

The competition was organized under the leadership of DEOCA Group, the head of the investor consortium for the project, in collaboration with other consortium investors and contractors. The event aimed to create a practical platform for workers to hone their professional skills, gain hands-on experience, and exchange knowledge in operating machinery and equipment.

In his opening speech, Mr. Pham Duy Hieu, Deputy General Director of DEOCA Group, emphasized that the competition also serves as an opportunity to identify outstandingly skilled personnel for recognition and further training, preparing them as core resources for the Group's future projects.

According to the Group's representative, DEOCA Group consistently prioritizes developing a workforce of highly skilled and responsible workers, both for the company itself and its partners. Prior to the competition, the organizing committee held a practical training session for participants, covering workplace etiquette, theoretical knowledge on machinery maintenance, and hands-on operational skills.

The competition featured two segments: a theoretical exam and a practical skills test. The theory segment, lasting 45 minutes, focused on professional knowledge, including machinery operation safety, equipment maintenance, and DEOCA's corporate culture.

The theoretical exam

The practical test, closely aligned with real-world production, took place at the Km10+400 construction site in Lang Son province. Over 90 minutes, teams operated equipment such as excavators, trucks, bulldozers, and rollers to construct a 250-300 meter road segment with a 25cm thick embankment, ensuring a minimum compaction level of K90.

The award structure is diverse, including 9 team prizes and 14 individual prizes, encouraging a spirit of competition among the teams.

The practical skills test

After two intense rounds of competition, the judging panel praised the consistent level of knowledge and skills across all teams. Dr. Ho Chi Dung, Director of the Group's Training Department and Head of the Theoretical Exam Judging Committee remarked: “The most important aspect is not the awards but the improvement and enhancement in knowledge and skills of each participant after the competition. This is the true value in building a strong workforce for the future”.

“This competition is an opportunity for workers to exchange experiences and compete in their craftsmanship, with the shared goal of project completion while enabling construction units to optimize their capabilities and grow together”, affirmed Mr. Do Van Dung.
