On October 11, 2024, the southern excavation team for Tunnel No. 3, located in Hoai Nhon, Binh Dinh province, achieved a significant milestone, reaching the 1,000-meter mark for the right tunnel. This accomplishment reflects the dedication and perseverance of the entire workforce involved in Quang Ngai - Hoai Nhon project.

Tunnel No. 3, the longest tunnel on Quang Ngai - Hoai Nhon expressway and the largest on the North-South expressway, is being excavated from two directions, with the northern end located in Quang Ngai province and the southern end in Binh Dinh province. To date, nearly 3,800 meters of the total 6,400-meter length have been excavated, marking over 58% completion. The southern right tunnel section reaching the 1,000-meter milestone is an important step toward the April 30, 2025, target for tunnel completion, with the entire project set for completion by December 31, 2025.

The southern excavation team currently consists of approximately 322 personnel and 146 pieces of equipment. Tunnel construction is a challenging endeavor, as temperatures deep within the tunnel are often significantly higher than outside, requiring engineers and workers to operate in harsh conditions.

Tunnel construction demands high technical standards and strict safety regulations to ensure error-free operations. Le Thien Tho, a field engineer for Tunnel No. 3, shared, “To complete the 1,000 meters, we have been working tirelessly on-site, coordinating machinery and manpower”.

“Despite the tough working conditions, we receive great support and welfare from the management team. This support ensures the team’s morale and motivates everyone to give their best effort to achieve the project’s goals”, Tho remarked

Mr. Tho further noted that all overtime and extended work hours are fully compensated, with no wage delays. “Nowadays, stable and continuous employment is hard to come by. I am grateful to the Group for providing us with steady jobs. As long as my health permits, I am ready to join future projects”, he expressed.

Vu Van Phuong, leader of the drilling team for Tunnel No. 3, has 16 years of experience in hydroelectric tunnel construction. He noted a key difference in mountain road tunnels, where DEOCA Group’s modern machinery has made the demanding work more manageable.

Mr. Phuong mentioned that, unlike the makeshift accommodations he encountered at hydroelectric sites, DEOCA Group has consistently provided well-equipped, comfortable facilities at all project sites, including Thung Thi tunnel, Ha Long coastal tunnel, and now Quang Ngai - Hoai Nhon expressway tunnel. The accommodations include air conditioning, hot water, communal kitchens, and recreational areas, ensuring better living and working conditions for the labor force.

Hoang Ngoc Dung, Tunnel No. 3 construction workers, explained that while tunnel temperatures are significantly higher than outside, even with ventilation systems, adapting can take time, with most only managing short intervals inside initially.

“With such support and facilities, we are ready to join future projects, fulfilling our duties as DEOCA’ workers. This milestone is just the beginning; there’s much more to accomplish”, Dung expressed enthusiastically.
