Since the start of October, there has been a notable occurrence of heavy rainfall in the coastal regions of South Central Vietnam, indicating the arrival of a three-month-long extended rainy season.

Construction activities within the XL01 package of the Chi Thanh - Van Phong expressway project, located in Phu Yen province, are also taking place amidst these conditions. The dual objective is to ensure efficient construction progress in accordance with the established plan, while prioritizing the safety of engineers and workers during the rainy season.

Survey engineers accurately determine the dimensions and elevation of the construction site for effective implementation

The XL01 package is a component of the Chi Thanh - Van Phong section within the East Phase 2 of the North-South Expressway project. This package spans a length of 24km, accounting for half of the total project length of 48km. The total contract value for the XL01 package amounts to 4,300 billion Vietnamese Dong. The consortium led by Deo Ca Group is responsible for the execution of the XL01 package. Deo Ca Group accounts for 43% of the package, including the Tuy An tunnel, a significant milestone in the overall project's progress.

The Tuy An tunnel is a critical component that significantly contributes to the overall progress of the project as a key milestone

At the construction site of the Tuy An tunnel, work is carried out around the clock. The morning shift begins at 6 AM and continues until 6 PM in the evening.

The Tuy An tunnel is a crucial component that requires the construction team to work with utmost focus and implement optimal strategies. Resources are consistently prioritized and mobilized to support the tunneling activities. Particularly during the rainy season, certain outdoor construction tasks, such as earthwork for road foundations, may need to be temporarily suspended due to the inability to obtain suitable soil for filling. Furthermore, ensuring labor safety in unfavorable weather conditions is a paramount concern. Additional security personnel are deployed to guarantee the safety of engineers and workers at the construction site

In addition to efficient construction, ensuring the safety of workers through labor protection measures is always a top priority during the rainy season

To prevent construction activities from being disrupted, the southern entrances of the tunnels were opened ahead of the rainy season. This allowed for the efficient execution of construction work inside the tunnels when the local area experiences heavy rain and storms. Meanwhile, certain tasks, such as pile drilling for bridges and construction of boxes along the route, are still being carried out to maintain project progress and ensure ongoing employment opportunities without interruption for the workers involved.

Due to the peak of the rainy season, the primary focus of construction activities is now centered inside the Tuy An tunnel

Contrary to the belief that these individuals have grown accustomed to living away from their families, it is far from the truth. They constantly remind themselves and encourage each other to persevere, regardless of the time of day or festive occasions, in order to fulfill their responsibilities. Their commitment stems not only from the desire to witness the completion of the road they have dedicated their labor to, but also from the longing to return home - a place where cherished family members such as parents, spouses, and relatives reside. They yearn to proudly recount their contributions to their loved ones and their homeland.

As the day shift comes to an end at 6 PM, the night shift workers promptly engage in their duties. Despite the challenges, stories and laughter continue to resonate throughout the journey as the workers make their way back to the construction site.

Living far away from their families, their longing and care are conveyed through daily phone calls. In front of the management building, where stone benches are placed, there are inquiries, advice, heartfelt conversations, and loving messages exchanged, or sometimes just silent moments where they gaze at the screen and reminisce about their loved ones.

The management team consistently shows care and encouragement, ensuring the workers remain dedicated to their tasks. The dining and accommodation areas are equipped with all necessary amenities, and regular friendly football matches and health check-ups are organized. Although the holidays and Tet are spent away from home, the engineers and workers also enjoy warm and cozy gatherings, which cannot replace the atmosphere of togetherness with their families but greatly uplift their spirits. The management team strives to create an environment that feels close and familiar, making it a second home for everyone.

The target for September 2024 is to complete the crucial Tuy An tunnel section of the project, with the overall project expected to be completed by December 2025. In the darkness of the Tuy An land, everyday stories flourish in the communal living area of the management compound. The genuine smiles in those eyes reflect a determined spirit, surpassing the scorching sun and conquering the rain, as well as overcoming any other obstacles, racing against time to bring the project to fruition. In the near future, the Chi Thanh - Van Phong expressway will seamlessly integrate into the North-South transportation network.
