On July 24, a delegation from DEOCA Group, led by Chairman Ho Minh Hoang, visited Mien Tay Construction University (Vinh Long province) to explore opportunities for cooperation in training and developing high-quality human resources, both for the company and the transportation infrastructure sector at large.
As the government continues to prioritize the development of transportation infrastructure, targeting an additional 2.000 kilometers of expressways and nine urban railway sections totaling 2.362 kilometers between 2025 and 2030, there is a pressing need for engineers equipped with practical skills who can meet real-world requirements and make immediate contributions upon graduation.
Chairman of the Board of Directors Ho Minh Hoang wished to work with the university to review and assess its training program so that it better aligns with the business needs, focuses on practical semesters and reduces emphasis on theory.
Under its growth strategy to 2030, DEOCA Group aims to train approximately 1.000 internal and partner employees annually. Chairman Ho Minh Hoang expressed his expectation to accompany and cooperate with Mien Tay Construction University in the training process, particularly in developing a "hands-on engineer" model.
DEOCA Group proposed establishing a training center or faculty to meet these practical needs, emphasizing a curriculum that focuses on hands-on skills. DEOCA will provide opportunities for students to participate in internships and corporate semesters at DEOCA’s ongoing projects. Additionally, students with high achievements will be eligible for scholarships and employment after graduation.
For curriculum development, DEOCA Group will assign experienced staff and invite experts to provide feedback and make improvements that align with the business practical needs and increase hands-on training time. The Group also proposed that the university consider adding new majors, such as high-speed railways, urban railways, and operation management.
Dr. Truong Cong Bang, Chairman of Mien Tay Construction University's council, spoke at the working session.
Speaking at the meeting, Dr. Truong Cong Bang, Chairman of Mien Tay Construction University's council, acknowledged the shortcomings of current training programs, which remain overly theoretical. He also noted the lack of modern equipment and the fact that many lecturers do not have practical experience on large-scale construction sites.
"The university urgently needs partnerships with businesses to solve the problem of practical training and to maximize our strengths in construction, architecture, transportation, urban infrastructure, and technology," Dr. Bang emphasized.
Founded in 1976, Mien Tay Construction University is one of the public universities under the Ministry of Construction in the Mekong Delta region. It plays a vital role in training engineers, architects, and technical staff to support infrastructure development in the region.
The university currently has seven specialized faculties, including the Faculty of Civil Engineering, which trains engineers in civil and industrial construction, transport construction, bridges and roads construction, and foundations. The Faculty of Architecture and Planning trains architects, interior designers and urban planners. The Faculty of Economics and Construction Management provides human resources for project management, bidding, valuation, and construction administration.
