Thorough preparations underway to operate Deo Ca tunnel, connecting to the North-South expressway

On October 24, 2024, in Phu Yen province, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Tran Chung, Vice Chairman of the Advisory Council, conducted a review of the management and operational processes of Deo Ca tunnel. The meeting focused on various aspects of tunnel operation, maintenance procedures, and preparations for seamless integration with the North-South expressway.

According to Deo Ca tunnel operation management enterprise, the current tunnel operations are being carried out by a team of 155 staff members. The operational teams are divided into specialized units: Maintenance, Electrical, Fire Protection & Rescue, and Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS).

Deo Ca tunnel's technical systems are functioning stably. The electrical system includes six 22/0.4kV substations, 24 jet fans, and a 110kV transformer station. Additionally, the fire protection and rescue systems are fully equipped with fire cabinets, fire detection sensors, and water pumps. The ITS incorporates advanced technologies such as CCTV, electronic information boards (VMS), a traffic management system (TMS), and a radio communication system, all of which ensure safety and efficient traffic management through the tunnel.

During the meeting, Advisor Tran Chung praised the enterprise's efforts to ensure safe, uninterrupted tunnel traffic and provided significant feedback on maintenance and mid-term repairs. He emphasized the importance of contingency planning for equipment maintenance, as well as procuring replacement parts. He also highlighted the need to reinforce the tunnel slopes in preparation for the upcoming rainy season to ensure safety for both the infrastructure and commuters.

A core discussion at the meeting was the infrastructure connection plan between Deo Ca tunnel and the North-South Expressway. Preparing personnel and enhancing operational capacity to meet expressway standards were deemed essential. The enterprise has been updating operational standards in line with expressway requirements, alongside studying safe, efficient traffic solutions for high-speed travel through the tunnel.

Advisor Tran Chung recommended that the enterprise make comprehensive preparations in terms of personnel, vehicles, and equipment to secure a smooth, safe integration between Deo Ca tunnel and the North-South Expressway. He emphasized that maintaining traffic safety standards and addressing incidents promptly would be crucial to the effective operation of the inter-regional transport infrastructure.

The meeting positively acknowledged Deo Ca tunnel’s management and operations while setting new requirements and goals to align with the demand for integrated operations with the upcoming North-South Expressway system.
