In March, DEOCA Group collaborated with Military Region 1 and Central Transport College No. 1 (CTC1) to organize a technical training course on road roller operation for military personnel deployed to Dong Dang – Tra Linh expressway project.
At 7:00 AM at Dong Dang - Tra Linh expressway construction site, Second Lieutenant Vi Van Lu from Artillery Brigade 382 (Military region 1) quickly gathered with his comrades at the practice area. Joining him were 16 professional military officers participating in the road roller operation training under the direct guidance of Instructor Chu Dang Quy from the Faculty of Civil Engineering at CTC1.

DEOCA Group cooperated with Military Region 1 and Central Transport College No. 1 (CTC1) to organize a technical training course on road roller operation for military personnel deployed to Dong Dang - Tra Linh expressway project.
This marks the second practical session for this unique group of trainees. Previously, they completed a day of formal theoretical study covering machine structure, operating principles, maintenance tasks, and cabin control systems.
Instructor Chu Dang Quy began guiding the trainees through equipment familiarization and basic maneuvers, such as forward and reverse movements on site. Despite having two years of experience operating artillery tractors, Second Lieutenant Vi Van Lu admitted that he and his comrades must remain highly focused to master these entirely new field skills.

Mr. Chu Dang Quy guides trainees on how to handle the gear.
“We need time to get used to the controls, as road rollers do not use clutches or accelerators like regular vehicles but are operated via a hand throttle. It was a bit confusing at first, but after about a session of practice, we were able to operate the machine”, Second Lieutenant Lu shared.
The 23-year-old officer also noted that the expressway construction site has many vehicles operating simultaneously, requiring operators to observe carefully and coordinate smoothly to ensure absolute safety.
Present at the site, instructor Chu Dang Quy stated that the training program sets high standards for output quality, as this is a group of professional soldiers who already possess a basic technical foundation. He emphasized to the trainees that operating equipment on site has its own unique characteristics; the soldiers need to familiarize themselves with the construction procedures and the strict technical requirements of a real-world construction environment.

After mastering basic operations, officers perform practical tasks: compacting soil and sub-base to meet K90, K95, and K98 standards.
Throughout the practical sessions, in addition to the guidance and supervision of instructors and project officials, trainees are divided into small groups. They operate the machinery directly on site using the “peer learning” method in which each pair consists of one operator and one observer, who communicate and remind each other.
“Pairing up helps overcome blind spots during operation training. With one person driving and the other observing and exchanging feedback, it is a very effective way to improve skills in a short time”, Mr. Chu Dang Quy remarked.
Upon mastering basic operations, the officers move on to practical exercises such as compacting soil and sub base layers, ensuring compaction levels meet K90, K95, and K98 standards. By the end of the course, all trainees had passed both theoretical and practical examinations before being officially assigned to work on the expressway route.
Having taught on numerous key expressway projects in the North, instructor Chu Dang Quy affirmed that construction sites under DEOCA Group always maintain high levels of organization, discipline, and scientific management, which are remarkably similar to the military environment.

Upon completing the course, all trainees pass theoretical and practical exams before starting work on the expressway.
As a key transportation infrastructure project with a strategic role, Dong Dang - Tra Linh expressway holds unique significance for the individuals participating in this training course.
Instructor Chu Dang Quy shared that being assigned twice to train trainees in operating construction machinery for this project is a special experience. It is also a valuable opportunity for educators like him to bridge the gap between training and practice. “We consider this an occasion to update ourselves on new technologies and to directly experience the pressure and rigorous demands of real-world construction activities”, Mr. Quy said.
As for Second Lieutenant Vi Van Lu, he could not hide his emotions as he would directly participate in building the expressway that is expected to transform his homeland of Cao Bang. “For me, this is both a duty and a source of pride, as I can contribute my efforts to creating an expressway for my hometown”,the native of Hanh Phuc commune (Cao Bang province) expressed.
